Special Education Services
Minnesota Valley Education District provides the following special education services to its member districts:
Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)
MVED consultants offer programming ideas and serve on school teams for students identified as being on the autism spectrum. Consultants will also assist teams in the evaluation process.
Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DH/H)
Teachers help identify deaf/hard of hearing students who need academic support or adaptations in classroom instruction or materials. They also provide direct instruction and support in needed areas including academics, listening skills, language and vocabulary development, sign language, hearing aid/auditory trainer use and care.
Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE)
Early childhood special education is available to the families of children from birth through age seven who have a significant delay or disorder in development or who have an identifiable sensory, physical, mental, or social/emotional condition or impairment known to hinder normal development.
Occupational Therapy (OT)
Children identified with motor and sensory delays or disabilities benefit from therapy and remediation enhancing their growth and development.
Physical/Health Disabilities
The physical/health disabilities consultant supports special education teams of students qualifying under Physical Impairment (PI), Other Health Disabilities (OHD), and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). The physical/health disabilities consultant is available to assist teams with the consideration of Assistive Technology (AT).
Physical Therapy (PT)
Physical therapists provide educationally relevant interventions to promote optimal learning for physically challenged children.
Speech/Language Services (S/L)
Children who experience communication disorders due to fluency, articulation, voice, language comprehension and expression, or neurological involvement may receive speech/language services.
School Psychology
School psychologists work as part of the educational team in our member schools or MVED programs to address learning, behavioral, child development, and mental health issues.
School Social Work
The social worker brings together appropriate resources for children who have problems preventing them from taking full advantage of their educational experiences.
